About Us

Cestria Cycling Club: A brief history

Cestria Cycling Club was established in 1986 and is based in the Chester-le-Street area of North East England.

Why not try us?

If you are interested in joining the club why not try us first? Come along to Chester-le-Street Market Place at 9am for a 9.15am start, introduce yourself and cycle with us as far as you want.

The club has a ‘steady ride’ once per month to encourage riders of all abilities to join us on a club run. We will make sure you get back to Chester and it will give you a chance to experience the friendship and companionship of the club before committing to joining. More details of the steady ride can be found in our Events section or on the club Facebook page

We meet every Sunday at 9am for a 9.15am club run at Chester-le-Street Market Place. Non-members are welcome to join and try us out. If you would like to try out a ride on a Sunday feel free to join. British cycling set suggest 2 rides as an invitee after that you would be expected to join as a member.

Your membership contributes towards the Clubs fees such as affiliation to British Cycling. Clubs that are paid up and affiliated to British Cycling will have Liability Insurance.

Membership benefits are endless and include discounted British cycling membership, discount at local cycle shops, entries to competitions such as time trials, weekly club rides

Club Runs & Membership

We like to encourage new members to ride on our club rides.

After you have been on 2 club rides you are obliged to join and pay any membership fees due as soon as possible

Please fill in the appropriate membership form found on this page and send it to the club secretary or hand it in to any committee member

Please ensure you arrive at one of our club rides at the times stated with a suitable bicycle in good working order, Mechanical issues can arise and there are many members with a good knowledge of bike maintenance who are willing to help but please don’t expect that someone will fix your bike.

If you’re thinking of joining us in the winter (often a very good time to join), we’ll expect you to fit mudguards after a couple of test rides. This means you don’t shower road filth on the person cycling behind you, and it’s also safer for them since there’s less risk of getting mud in their eye. It also helps protect your bike from the muck on the roads. We’re happy to offer advice and help if you ask.

No one will be left stranded

If you wish to become a member of Cestria CC, download a membership form in PDF or Microsoft Word format. Yearly membership is £10 (£5 for Juniors/associates).

All are welcome

We welcome cyclists of all abilities, male and female, as long as you’re happy on your bike! On a Sunday club run we tend to split into different groups depending upon ability, although in the winter the racing members stick with the main group.

Why not have a go at Time Trialling?

Regarded by many cyclists as the ‘Race of Truth’, time trialling is challenging, fun and addictive! Course lengths in the NE range from 1 mile hill climbs to 50 miles, and the terrain is varied and beautiful. There are various leagues and CTT events tend to be very well organised and marshalled.

At Cestria we run our own Time Trial mini series in May / June. Come along and race the clock. More details are on our Events page.

Club Racing Events

There are two events particularly associated with the club; the Terry Proctor 9.4 mile circuits on the Leamside circuit which takes place in June, and the Lanchester Peth hill climb in October. The club is also a host for a round of the North East Cyclo Cross League.

Club clothing

The current club clothing was designed by Andy Crawley for the 2013 season, and it was very warmly and enthusiastically received by members and non-members alike. The bright colours are excellent for visibility on the road, and the quality of the material makes it easy to wash. Halo UK supplied the kit via their manufacturer Velo, an Italian company.
