On Thursday 29 May, 17 competitors entered the second of the mini-league series, on a dry but cool evening. There was a brisk easterly wind which also caused a few problems on the back straight. We were delighted to welcome our first lady entrant for a number of years, and Sandra Cheung did a very good time for her first attempt on the course. Many riders improved on last week’s times, and there will still be more opportunity remaining in the next few weeks. In the men’s competitions, Terry Ottaway maintained his grip on the under 40s league by taking a staggering 2 minutes of last week’s time. Geoff Watson is still within reach but unfortunately Chris Burns punctured just before the cottage on Cocken Road. Chris’s misfortune allowed SImon Brooke to equal him on points, and he also took over two-and-a-half minutes off his time from last week.

In the Over 40s Michael Openshaw’s dominance continued with some members wondering if they should also order a club duoathlon suit. He was slower than last week, however, but only by a second! Club stalwart Rick Mitford is a mere point behind Michael, keep up the pressure with his 22:34, only 24 seconds behind Michael. Third placed Lee Ridden is only 3 points behind Michael, taking a credible 22 seconds off last week’s time. Chairman Mike Wyngard is in fourth place, only 7 points behind the leader and ready to pounce if any of the contenders fail to compete. Mike took over 30 seconds off last week’s time.

In the 56+ category Nick Jobson produced a fine ride with 25:55 with last week’s fellow marshalls Ian Gardner and Dave Marshall not competing (Ian kindly marshalled again).

Sandy Cheung’s first ever time time trial resulted in a fine 31:04 and enjoyed the experience and support from the roadside.

Former organised Nick Daly and formed member Harry Venables appeared to support the event. Many thanks to marshalls Richard Ritz, Trev Atkinson, Phillipe Galland and Graeme Bradford for your support on the night.
