Valentines Day Club Run

Valentines Day saw the coldest temperatures of the winter so far, with a fair bit of snow and ice greeting the six hardy souls who turned out to head into the cold Northerly breeze.  Heading out from Chester-Le-Street through Birtley and Team Valley, we followed the usual route through Dunston and Blaydon, over the river at Newburn and climbed up to Throckley and on towards Ponteland where we encountered the heaviest snow showers of the day.

Once past Ponteland, some blue skies then accompanied us to Gubeon.  Based at the golf course, there is a very quiet café which welcomes cyclists and suited us perfectly.  With plenty space for everyone we warmed up with a hot drink and cake before heading homewards on a circular route which took in Whalton, Belsay, Stamfordham, Stocksfield, Prudhoe, Crawcrook and then completed the circle just past Ryton,  then using the same roads to head home as per the outward leg.

Steve Gee and Richard Barnett got in their usual 100 miles with the rest of us somewhere around the 80 mile mark.  Thanks to Peter Scott for the picture.
